FiiO FT1. Affordable Closed-back Head Phones

FiiO launch the FT1: Affordable Closed-back Hi-Fi Headphones with real American Black Walnut Wooden Ear-cups

Featuring 60mm Dynamic Drivers, 3.5mm Single-ended & 4.4mm Balanced Connections, Silver-plated Oxygen-free Cable, and a wide 10Hz-40kHz Frequency Response.

Audio specialists, FiiO, expand their range of over-ear headphones — which includes the award-winning FT3 and FT5 — with the new FT1.

Sporting a closed-back design with 60mm Dynamic Drivers housed in real wooden cups, with the FT1 FiiO's audio engineers have designed a headphone that delivers excellent high-frequency extension and transient response — with a clean, precise sound and controlled dynamic bass.

The FiiO FT1 ear-cups are made from carefully selected FAS-grade American Black Walnut. The wood’s smooth grain is unique to each pair to FT1, and this highly dense solid wood helps to effectively reduce cavity resonance and minimise standing waves.

60mm Large Dynamic Driver: The FT1 features a newly developed second-generation 60mm large dynamic driver, that has been designed specifically for FiiO’s first closed-back over-ear headphones. Its larger-than-average driver size enhances energy conversion efficiency and provides a solid foundation for bass. In addition, this increased driver size results in lower low-frequency resonance points, ensuring a deeper dynamic bass response.

Nano-wood Fibre Composite Diaphragm: The FT1’s diaphragm primarily consists of carefully selected paper wood fibres, utilising 90-year-old spruce wood from Northern Europe. Often used in the manufacture of musical instruments, this wood is known for assisting in the delivery of a clear sound and natural tone. The spruce wood undergoes a series of processes, including soaking, cooking, and beating, to create specific pulp — in order to meet acoustic toughness requirements, a precise proportion of carbon fibre material is then added. The diaphragm then undergoes another round of baking and moulding, resulting in a final thickness of approximately 0.1mm.

FiiO has used a light PU material — with high internal resistance — for the suspension gasket which enhances low-frequency elasticity, and strengthens the density of the resulting sound. These elements combine to ensure the FT1 deliver a warm, detailed, and musical sound.

W-shaped Suspension Gasket: With the FTI, FiiO's engineers have included a new generation of in-house acoustic technology: the W-shaped Suspension Gasket. The 25mm diameter voice coil is larger compared to similar models and has been specifically optimised and tuned for the FT1. Compared to typical similarly sized diaphragms, the W-shaped diaphragm achieves a 25.8% increase in effective vibrating area, allowing it to store more energy reserves. This setup minimises vibration loss between different materials and reduces distortion caused by driver breakup, allowing the FT1 to deliver a clean, refined sound.

Ultra-fine Japanese CCAW Voice Coil: The FT1 utilises a specially imported Japanese ultra-fine CCAW (Copper-Clad Aluminum Wire) Voice Coil with a diameter of up to 25mm. A longer voice coil copper wire can directly enhance transducer efficiency and drive capacity, improving transient response and resulting in purer, more comfortable sound. Each individual wire core in the CCAW coil has a diameter of approximately 0.035mm — around as thin as a human hair.

U-shaped Acoustic Damping Tube: The U-shaped sound damping tube specifically developed for the FiiO FT1 not only enhances passive noise attenuation, but also allows sound energy to pass through at a specific length and angle. This increases air viscosity and reduces cavity resonance frequency — further enhancing the bass extension of the FT1.

Conical Baffle Plate: FiiO's engineers have designed Conical Baffle Plate for the FT1 drivers. This ensures the entire driver is positioned parallel to the human ear; breaking up sound convergence and avoiding standing waves. As a result, there is minimal high-frequency attenuation, further enhancing the sound-quality offered by the headphones.

3-axis Adaptive Headband: The FT1 uses the same ergonomic headband design found on the FT3 and FT5 Open-back headphones. This innovative 3-axis Adaptive Headband allows for free rotation at multiple angles, ensuring a comfortable, snug fit with minimal sound leakage. Alongside 12 levels of fit adjustment, the horizontal rotation angle of the FT1 is 35°, pitch rotation is 45°, and sliding travel of the headband is 38mm.

Breathable Fabric Earpads: To ensure comfortable long listening sessions, the FT1 is fitted with breathable fabric earpads. The high-density breathable mesh design efficiently dissipates heat buildup between the ear cushions and your ears. The side of the ear cushions is made of protein leather.

392-wire Silver-plated Oxygen-free Copper Cable: To ensure the new FT1 can be used with a wide range of sources — including PC/Mac, Digital Audio Players, and more — FiiO has supplied two easily interchangeable headphone cables: one terminated with a 3.5mm single-ended plug, one with a 4.4mm balanced. Both cables are made using an Oxygen-free Copper-plated Silver Wire with 392 wires, to ensure a highly transparent and robust sound signature.

The FiiO FT1 are available now, priced: £139 / €159 / $159.
